Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

It’s so easy to go on our social media platforms and pay attention to influencers with 800k+ followers and having a desire to be like them. You see people going on exotic trips, 2k+ comments of heart eye emojis or “I love you so much!” Oh, we can’t forget about the thousands or millions of likes and shares that other people get and you get four likes (ten likes on a good day).  It’s time to stop focusing on the followers, likes, shares, and anything that deals with social media.
You may not even care about social media, but you may compare yourself to your friend who had just gotten married recently and is pregnant with her first child. Now you’re wondering “why I haven’t gotten married yet? I’m older than her. I’m not even close to having a child.” Stop comparing yourself to your friends, family, or similar influencers!
Everybody is on a different path in their life which means things are going to happen differently for everybody. You may be single because God doesn’t think you’re ready for a relationship yet. He’s shaping you up for that guy as he’s doing the same thing for him. God didn’t intend for everyone to be alike because he wants us to complete different assignments. If we were all alike, then the world would be boring.
I’ve been blogging for two months now, and it’s impressive to see everyone’s views on life. Lifestyle bloggers sharing their different morning or night routines, a faith blogger is focusing on the disease they’re dealing with and how God is keeping them, and a mental health blogger is sharing tips on how to cope with depression. Singers all have different styles for a reason, so people will be drawn to their uniqueness. We all have various assignments on this Earth, and we need to focus on what we need to do to complete that task.
The enemy wants us to compare ourselves to others so we can become depressed. He wants us to focus on why we don’t do things like other people. The Devil comes to steal our joy and comparing ourselves to others will keep us from being happy. I want you to know that you are on the path you are on for a reason. There is no coincidence that you are attending that school, no coincidence that you are a writer, singer, Youtuber, blogger, mechanic, and many other things. God has given us all gifts and talents to use for His Glory!
I understand that you want to work with those famous brands, but it might not be your time yet. You may not ever get to work on those famous brands because you may be called to focus on the least known brands. 1 Corinthians 12:31 NET says “ But you should be eager for the greater gifts. And now I will show you a way that is beyond comparison.” This scripture wants you to know that if you enjoy using the gifts that God has given you, He will bless you more than you can even imagine! Hallelujah!
You are missing out on your blessing because you’re comparing yourself to your friends or your family members. You don’t understand the things that people had to go through to get to that point in their life. Everybody starts from the bottom and eventually makes their way to the top. Your favorite preacher didn’t start with a big church. Some preachers began in their living rooms or taught small groups.
I enjoy watching Youtubers explain their process of getting to where they are now. Many YouTubers have been on Youtube for 10+ years and are now making a living from it. There is a process to your calling! Trust and believe that God is going to bless you if he has instilled this gift or talent in you. Continue to train yourself to be the best _________ you can be! It also doesn’t hurt to study and read information from people who are in the same category as you. Please don’t compare yourself to people. You are hurting yourself more than you know.
I hope that this message has inspired or motivated you to do what you’re called to do with a passion! Thank you for reading! Have a great day, evening, or night!
Prayer: Lord, encourage us to complete your assignment. Don’t let us become weary and faint! Lord, we ask that you take away the comparison spirit from our hearts. Fill our hearts with passion, love, and patience. We understand that we are not made to do the same thing as our peers. We want to live for you and not the world! We love You, Lord! In Your name, Amen!
Proverbs 8:11 KJV – For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

Thank you for this post Chelle! I find myself in the comparison rut a lot. I tell God that He knows what I don’t know and ask him to show me…. and keep plugging along. Love your blog!

Yes! Thank you for posting this. It is something I definitely struggle with, and all of us do. It’s so easy to wonder what God is doing in our own lives when we compare our own journey to that of others. It’s also very easy to become discouraged when we focus on ourselves or the world around us instead of God himself.

Very well said! In the end, it’s not about us or others; it’s about God! He’s getting the glory from what we do in our lives. I’m glad you enjoyed reading Robert!
