Why Do We Complain?

We love to complain about the small things in life. It’s something about someone not shutting the door right to your car that can instantly tick you off. Your coworker is too chatty at 7 am, and you’re bothered by that because you’re not a morning person. Complaining is another disguise of venting. Don’t you love to vent when you’re angry? If you answered yes, I do too! I want to get everything I’m mad about off of my chest to someone. We’re complaining to another person about why we are angry.
Complaining isn’t an act from God. The enemy wants us to be angry about the smallest things in our life. All this time, we’ve been tricked into saying “I’m venting.” by the enemy so it can seem like “we’re still doing good. We’re just getting things off of our chest.” No! We’re not acting like Jesus when we complain or vent, and he doesn’t like when we do that with other people. If you are worked up about something, tell that to the Lord or write it down in a journal. The enemy loves when we get worked up with one another or complain about something to each other. We got to stop complaining people! Proverbs 10:14 says “’Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.” If we want to live for the Lord, we can’t sit and complain about our life.
During the spring semester of my sophomore year, The Lord would wake me up at 5 am weekly. Oh let me tell you, it was pretty hard to be giving the Lord my all at 5 o’clock in the morning and I had 8 am classes. I remember saying “ Lord I’m tired. I just want to go back to sleep until I get up for class.” He spoke back saying “This is the only time that I can get to you. You’re busy with classes all day.” I remember complaining more and just talking about how I’ll squeeze time in the day for Him if he let me go back to sleep. All of a sudden I heard Him say “Stop complaining! Some people don’t wake up in the morning, and you did.” I shut my mouth and had a moment. Wow! I was complaining about getting up early in the morning, and someone else was not able to make it out of bed.
The Lord recently started waking me up early again this year, and I don’t complain as much as I did last year. I spend time with Him in the morning and go about my day. I’m tired a lot, but I make it through each day because of the grace of God. We have to think of life like that. No matter what goes on in our life, we’re still making it through the grace of God! Thank You, Jesus!
There’s no room to complain because we’re alive, have shelter, go to school, got a job, and many other excellent things. We have to stop entertaining the Devil by complaining or venting about our life. God will handle all of our challenges whether it is big or small! Complaining does not make anything better, so why do we do that?
It makes us feel good to get a little fussiness out of our system. C’mon, you know after you finished venting everything out, you say “Wow that felt good. I feel relieved.” Just me? Okay.
Let’s all make the Devil angry and be grateful for the big and small things happening in our lives. If your spouse didn’t wash the dishes last night, don’t complain about that. There are more problems in the world than getting mad because your spouse forgot to wash the dishes. Be grateful that you have a spouse or if your spouse is still living, Thank God that he/she is alive. I don’t know who this part is for, but it is for someone. I’ve learned that when we stop complaining about everything, God will bless us even more.
Take some time to stop complaining and Thank God for your beautiful life. None of us deserve to live, but thank You God for this life! I want to quit whining and venting. I want to give my anxious thoughts to God, not people. They can pray for us, but they can’t fix our situations like our GREAT GOD.
Some things that I am thankful for:
  • Being alive
  • Able to attend college
  • My family members are alive and well
  • I can eat every day!
  • I don’t have to drink from the muddy water
  • I live in a stable housing
Why are you thankful? We do not have to be grateful only during the Thanksgiving holiday. We should be thankful every day. The Bible has plenty of verses about being thankful, but Psalm 107:1 is one of my favorite Thanksgiving verses. It says “O give thanks unto the LORD, for [he is] good: for his mercy [endureth] forever.” God is good and his mercy endureth forever. Shouldn’t that be enough to stop complaining? I know it is for me.
The Lord will supply all of our needs and will handle all of our situations when we bow before Him and tell Him what is wrong with us. Be grateful guys and leave the complaints at the back door. Thank you for reading! Have a great day, evening, or night!
Prayer: God, guide our tongues and our hearts. Help us to confide our problem in you and not to people. We don’t want to be mad at our loved ones or mad about living. Work on us to appreciate life more! God, You are the only one that can fix our problems. We thank you for what you are doing and what you are going to do in our lives. In Jesus name, amen!
Philippians 4:6 NET – Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God.

I believe you can be thankful and talk about the difficulties in your life. Talking out loud to God or others can bring some clarity to fix an issue or just get it off your chest. I believe the problem comes when all someone does is complain constantly but is not looking for a solution.

I agree with your comment. It’s good to talk things out with others to fix problems. If we’re not able to/choose not to fix the problem, we shouldn’t just go around complaining. Thank you ❤️

I agree. I think when we complain about the small things, it can come across as we’re being ungrateful for what God has blessed us with. But I also agree with the comment above that it is ok to talk to God about the things that we are unhappy with. Basically saying, God I am grateful for all that you have blessed me with me, but, getting up at 5am is so hard, I just want a little bit more sleep. This such a great article and well articulated. Great job Chelle.
