Having a Good Foundation

It is important to have a good foundation in our walk with Christ! If we don’t have a good foundation with Jesus, then we will crumble in the ways of the world. It’s like a house needs good foundation to stand up firm. If the house does not start with a good foundation, it can fall apart. In Luke 6, Jesus talks about having a good foundation in verse 43 through 49. Today we are going to talk about verses 47 through 49.  Luke 6:47 says “Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like” Luke 6:48 says “He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.”

Laying foundation on rock is a solid foundation. We know from science classes that rock does not break easily. From observation, we also know that rock is hard and water cannot tear it apart easily. The scripture said the the stream beat forcefully upon the house and it would not shake it because it was founded on a rock. Luke 6:49 says “But, he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat forcefully, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.” This verse is saying that a man without good foundation that is build on the earth itself will crumble. The house fell immediately because there is no solid foundation like the rock.

Now that you understand where I’m coming from, let me explain the difference between a good foundation and a bad foundation.

A person with good foundation is someone who depends on God with their life. Notice that the man used rock as a solid foundation and the Bible says He is the rock in Deuteronomy 32:4. If we put God first in our life, He will be the rock of our foundation!

How do we have a good foundation?

We lay down a good foundation with God by praying to Him, reading His Word, listening to Christian/Gospel music, and praising and worshiping Him. We also fast to subject our flesh and know that God is the foundation of our lives. We have to stay connected with God in order to build a good house in our spirit. We have to practice righteousness in our daily walk with Christ! A foundation with God is a relationship with Him. When we are walking with Christ, we are storing our treasures in heaven and not earth (Matt.6:20-21).

What is a bad foundation?

A person with a bad foundation is a person that is entertaining the world. As long as anyone goes after the things in this world, their foundation will always crumble. The spirit will always lack something. It is the reason why unsaved people fill their spirits with alcohol, drugs, profane language, and so much worldly activities. People are depressed and dealing with suicidal thoughts because they are crumbling inside. That’s why Jesus says “a man without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat forcefully, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.” People are trying to build their foundation through earthly treasures. A lot of people are trying to chase after money, cars, and bigger houses. They don’t understand that all that will not matter for the Kingdom of God. It’s nice to have those things, but if your soul does not have a foundation in Jesus, you will never be satisfied. You will always want more of this and more of that! This is why celebrities keep moving from a big house to a bigger house because they are not satisfied.

The enemy likes to fool us that the worldly lifestyle is the best lifestyle. He showcases people in these big homes and fast cars. Then he points at the Christian, saying,”you always got to work harder to get this stuff, but if you be apart of the world, you can get things quicker. The thing about having an amazing earthly lifestyle is that you have to deal with the devil to get this so-called amazing lifestyle.

Let’s look at the celebrities who have committed suicide, they were dissatisfied with something in their life even though they seemed like they had it all. They had a family, money, cars, and a huge house. They still weren’t happy about where they were in their life.

A bad foundation can lead you to a life that seems great, but it will always crumble. God puts together things that will not fall apart. As a Christian, think about how many times you left God alone for awhile and he reeled you back in to get it together. You saw those sermons in church was speaking directly to you and it made you come back to Him.

For me, I realize that though I slip, God always brings me back to keep going for Him. His children will not fall apart as long as we develop a relationship with Him. As Christians, we do go through trials and tribulations, but it won’t kill or break us. After we get through that trial or tribulation, we become stronger in Him. Am I right? I know that’s how I felt after I went through trials in my life. If you don’t have a good relationship with God, you will not be able to stand the difficult times that you are going through.

It’s time to stand firm in Christ, so that you can build a good foundation with Him. Start praying for intimacy with Jesus. Ask the Lord to help you be on fire for Him. Maybe you’re a person who went back to the world, come back home to the Lord! He will welcome you with loving arms! Leave all the worldly ways(reckless sex, cursing, drunk behavior, smoking, clubs) behind so that you can have a rock solid foundation. The Lord loves you and He wants you to make it to the Kingdom! Do you want to build a house (spirit) of good foundation or a house that is built upon the earth (bad foundation), but will crumble?

I pray that this post bless you to build a relationship with the GREAT Father instead of the worldly ways. I love you all, but most importantly God loves you all! Have a fantastic day, evening, or night!
