It’s Time To Eat!

We talk about how much we love God, but how much do we actually love Him? Are we willing to submit our whole life to Him? Are we going to let go of those worldly friends and follow Jesus? Today we talk about our hunger for God. How hungry are we for Jesus? I watch a lot of people label themselves as a Christian, but I see no fruit that they love Jesus. I believe people like to say that they are Christians to feel good. But, as an authentic follower of Christ, it’s not about pleasing yourself. It’s about pleasing Jesus Christ.

For example, if we are hungry, we’ll eat any type of food. We are not picky about food when we’re hungry. Food is nourishment for our body and it gives us the energy that we need to conquer the day. This is how we should be as we live for Jesus. We should crave Him for the rest of our lives because He gives us unlimited strength. “Eating” up His Word and giving Him our undivided attention is how we should stay on fire for Him. Jesus said in John 6:35 NLT “Jesus replied, I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” Jesus said Himself that we will never hunger or thirst again if you believe in Him. In other words, we will never lose strength or power as long as we serve The Lord. Even when we fail, we will always be a winner when we are on The Lord’s team.

How do we become hungry for Christ?

When we seek Christ through His Word, worship Him ,thanking Him for His goodness, and listening to Gospel/ Christian music, it makes us become closer to The Lord. We become even more hungry when we leave the worldly ways behind. If we take time to get know what God wants from us through prayer and fasting, we will be open to being hungry for Christ all the time. After making the decision to leave secular music alone, I found myself wanting to know about Jesus. Gospel artists sing the goodness of Jesus into my ears or they sing based off of  Bible scriptures. I was persuaded to open up my Bible and read about Jesus and the great things I can inherit when I follow Him.

I remember finding Proverbs so intriguing about wisdom. I would pray to God that I wanted to know more about Him. I wanted Him to show me His Good Works. I also believe that surrounding ourself with godly community makes us hungry for Christ. I heard so many people on different levels of their relationship with God. I was inspired hearing a lot of Christians have no desire in secular music or foolish television, I wanted to be like that because I always knew those things were not good for my Spirit. I remember a couple of times, just praying in tears for more of Jesus in my life. Once I stepped into the presence of The Lord, it’s like this beautiful presence that I never want to leave me. I always ask for the Holy Spirit to fill me up because it’s such a warm feeling in my stomach.

We can’t entertain the world and entertain the Kingdom at the same time (Matt.6:24). We will never be hungry for Christ as long as we continue to follow the world through secular music, reality shows, filthy entertainment, and even bad company. Sometimes we have to let go of the friends in our lives because they are hindering us from Jesus. We have to let go of that favorite rapper or R&B artist to unleash the hunger for Jesus. I know it’s hard, but if you’re wondering why your relationship with God is stagnant or why you’re  not on fire for Jesus anymore. This could be your answer that you need to delete these things out of your life.

I’ve been doing a lot of fasting and I took a social media break. I have found an amazing love for the Father since I’ve done these things. I’ve been enjoying reading the Bible and I have enjoyed listening to Christian/Gospel music. I know I advocate Gospel music a lot, but listen it has changed me so much spiritually and mentally. I am in awe of The Lord because of Gospel music. I just feel this angelic presence when I listen to Gospel music. Anyways I have been praying to Jesus a lot and He’s been answering prayers through consistent fasting and staying in the Word. Every time He answers me, I’m saying “wow Lord! Give me more of you! What else do you want from me? Let me glorify You with my life.” I’ve become very excited about seeking The Lord in the past month and a half. It’s such a great feeling to actually say I have a relationship with Jesus and we connect through prayer and worship.

There’s a lot of people that desire a relationship with Christ but they aren’t hungry enough. If we aren’t hungry enough for Him, we’ll always feel stagnant with our relationship with Jesus. I was in a stagnant relationship where I felt like I was doing things to please Jesus because it’s right. I wasn’t excited and I didn’t crave more of Him. I just wanted to be close to Jesus. When I elevated my thinking from just wanting to be close to Him to I am hungry for Him, I felt God’s presence open in my life. It was like God was saying “there you go! Don’t just be close to me because it’s good. Be excited just as I am for you to talk to me.” Jesus is so excited when we crave more of Him every day. He loves hearing the excitement in our voices when we pray to Him. He loves the way we smile when we worship. He loves when we cry out for more from Him. God wants you to become hungry for Him today. He wants you to leave the wicked ways of the world and step into a brand new life apart of the Kingdom.

What’s holding you back from growing closer to God? Is it fear? Is it that phone? What about social media? How about the boyfriend or your squad? Who or what is holding you back? When you let go of those things that are holding you back, you will become hungry for Christ. A big problem is we’re idolizing too many things in our life which is hindering us from the amazing relationship with Jesus. I let a lot of things go this year that I never thought I would let go. I let go of secular music, filthy movies, and I’m letting go a lot of tv shows that I watch. It’s a process though. I’ve kicked reality shows out of the picture because those shows just made me crave more drama. I can’t get into the Kingdom as long as I enjoy gossip and drama.

It’s time to eat! Are you hungry for Jesus? Do you want to crave more of Him every day? Take this post and pray about what you want to let go of in your life. Stop letting the world make your relationship with God frail and boring. A relationship with God is supposed to be exciting and beautiful.

I want to give you tips on how to make your relationship with Jesus exciting :

  • Spend the morning with Jesus – Get your coffee or your favorite breakfast. Start reading a chapter a day in Proverbs or Ecclesiastes. I think that’s those are the best chapters to start in the Bible because they are easy to understand and they are intriguing chapters. Get the Bible YouVersion app and find some devotionals that are suitable for you. The app literally has every topic whether you want to focus on love, forming a relationship with Jesus, Godly Marriages etc.
  • Buy a journal – Write to Jesus how you would talk to a friend. Tell Him about your day at the end of the night. Tell Him how you would like the day to be i.e. “Good morning, Jesus, Thank you for this day. Help me to have a good day. Help me to get a nice parking spot on campus. Help me to encourage someone I don’t know today. Lord, let me follow You today.” Write your prayers for friends or family. Name your journal something fun. I call mine “Conversations with Jesus”. I write all my thoughts to Jesus in this journal and tell Him how I’m feeling whether it’s good or bad. It just gets my thoughts out of my head onto paper and it’s nice to read how God has gotten me through my days or months in life.
  • Turn on Gospel music while you are praying – It makes you feel His presence and you don’t feel bored with the thought of praying. A lot of times people don’t feel like talking to Jesus and not hearing anything back. If you’re like that, listen to Gospel music. You feel His presence and you don’t feel weird. I promise that you won’t feel weird when you feel the bond between you and Jesus.
  • Make dinner and just talk to Jesus – I usually listen to Gospel music and eat. I just thank Jesus for everything. I tell Him about my day. I turn off my television and give Him my undivided attention.
  • Watch an interesting sermon – I have a written a post about Pastors I enjoy watching on YouTube. Some pastors can be boring, and I get that, but I’ve discovered some lively pastors that enjoy preaching and making you laugh as well. Click here if you want to find some great sermons. I usually pick the sermons with a catchy title or something that relates to what I’m going through.

Those are some of my tips that makes my relationship with Jesus exciting. You don’t have to be bored with Jesus. Don’t let the enemy fool you that it’s just praying, worshiping and praising Jesus. It’s so much more in a relationship with Jesus and you will never know what it is until you choose to take action to spend time with Jesus.

I hope that you took something from this post! I pray that you become hungry for Jesus. It’s time to eat spiritually and mentally. We’re already eating physically, but we got to transfer that hunger to our spirit. We need more of Jesus every day of our lives. There is not a day in our life where we don’t need Jesus. He made all of our days and He will continue to make them. “This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!” Psalm 118:24 NLT. Have a fantastic week! Don’t let the enemy steal your joy!

Prayer: Lord, we come to You right now to help us to be hungry for You! Give us the desire to long for Your presence. Deep down in our hearts, we want to know more of You, but we don’t know how. Lead us and guide us to become on fire for You! Jesus, there is someone who feels stagnant with their relationship with You. Help them to rekindle the connection between You and them. We know that You desire all of Your children to be close to You. Lord Jesus, we love you! We thank you for showing us how to become hungry for Your presence. Lord help those who are connected with the world. We break the consumption of secular music, filthy and vulgar entertainment, and Lord we break the bad company that is surrounding us! Lord Jesus, if our “friends” are hindering us from being on fire for You! Let them go right now, in the name of JESUS! Add good company in our lives. Add people who can inspire us to live better for You every day! In Jesus name, we thank You! Amen!

If you want to give your life to Christ right now, here’s the prayer:

Dear God, I know that I’m a sinner and I need a Savior. I believe that Jesus died for my sins and rose again. I want to turn away from my sin and live a godly life. I now invite Jesus Christ into my heart as my Lord and Savior. I am willing to follow Him as Lord of my life from this day forward. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.

Believe this prayer in your heart and know that you are saved. If you said this prayer, please comment below! I want to see people make the choice to turn their life around to follow Jesus. If you skipped the choice to say the prayer, I will pray for you and hope that one day you will make the choice to follow Jesus before it’s too late.

Matthew 4:19-20 NLT: [19] Jesus called out to them “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” [20] And they left their nets at once and followed him.
