Are You Thirsty?

Have you ever been thirsty and the only drink you wanted was water? Do you ever think that’s how you are with your spiritual lifestyle? You just want a drink from the living Jesus Christ. Think about getting water from Jesus. Oh, how great that water would be! There’s a story in the Bible where Jesus meets a Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well. She came to draw water and Jesus said, “please give me a drink.” He was by Himself because the disciples went into the village to buy food. (John 4:7-8).

The woman couldn’t believe He was talking to her because Jews did not want to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?” I love the way Jesus replied to the woman. He said “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” (John 4:10)

The woman didn’t realize who she was talking to. If she knew that she was talking to Jesus, she would know that He could give her water that will never run out! The woman was trying to understand where Jesus would get this living water. She also asked Jesus “And besides, do you think you’re greater than our ancestor Jacob who gave us this well? How can you offer better water than he and his sons and his animals enjoyed?”(John 4:12). She obviously didn’t know who she was talking to. Jesus is so much greater than Jacob and He can offer so much more than him.

Jesus lets this woman know that anybody that drinks this water from the well will become thirsty again. But, anybody that drinks water from Him will never thirst again. The water that Jesus gives is a fresh, bubbling spring inside of their spirit that gives them eternal life (John 4:13-14). The woman became excited. She wanted this water so she would never thirst again and won’t have to return to the well. I understand how she feels! Please Lord give us this amazing water where we won’t have to thirst anymore!

Jesus told the woman to go get her husband. She said she didn’t have a husband. Then Jesus said “You’re right! You don’t have a husband – for you have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now. You certainly spoke the truth!” After the woman’s life was revealed in front of her, she wanted to know if He was a prophet. Jesus told her that He was the Messiah. The woman left her water jar and ran back to the village telling everyone about a man that told her everything that she’s ever done. People came from the village to see Him.

What’s your point with this story? My point is that if you allow Jesus to live inside of you. He will give you eternal life. It’s interesting that Jesus told this woman about everything that she’s ever done. He made her want to change her life. Only Jesus can quench the thirst that everyone is parched from.

Maybe in our spiritual lifestyle, we need a thirst quencher. Jesus can refresh us from the dry patches in our lives. We may have lost a desire in praying to Him because it seems like He’s not answering our prayers. We’re uninterested with reading the Bible because we’re not understanding it. It’s been a long day, and all we want to do is crawl into bed without speaking to Jesus. I believe that we should ask Jesus to fill us up with this living water that he gave the Samaritan woman.

When we are filled up with the Living Water, we can pass the water to other people through speech. How do we give the Living Water to others through speech? We can tell them about the great news of Jesus in conversation or encourage believers to keep pressing on towards Him. Jesus was giving an example to be a vessel to others whether they are a Christian or not, so that we can all be full of a fresh and bubbling spirit. As  Christians, we are the ones that reach the lost souls through conversation and our actions. Mostly through conversation, we can let people know who Jesus is.

Sometimes thirst is not physical, but spiritually. Where are you dry spiritually? Where does Jesus need to fill you up at (your body, your home, your job)? We can’t afford to be dry my brothers and sisters because we have to go out and win souls for Jesus! We don’t want nonbelievers falling in the hands of the enemy. Someone may need to be led out of depression. We can tell them about Jesus who can give them abundant life! One of our brothers or sisters in Christ are running on E and need to be filled back up through encouragement. If you’re high in Christ, then you should be picking your family in Christ up through conversation.

But what if you’re the one empty? Through God’s presence and His Word is where you can be filled up when you are dry. There have been times where I have felt emotionally or mentally exhausted. I knew that if I was dry, people surrounding me was going to be dry. When I’m filled up, people will be filled up because I am able to lead them back to the One who can make them whole. I can never fill a person up, but through Jesus Christ, He will supply the Living Water.

Are you thirsty? Have a drink from the Living Word! Fill yourself with great Gospel/Christian music that He has put in your life. Don’t run on E because that is where the enemy can devour you like a roaring lion (1 Peter 5:8). He’s waiting for you to be dry so that he can lead you back to the world. He loves when people are dry and low because he can keep the people in depression, addictions, suicidal mindset, and a dysfunctional lifestyle. We don’t want that, so Christians please try to win souls back Jesus!

Thank you for reading and sharing! I hope that you got something out of this post! Always remember that you are loved by God! Have an amazing week! Stay prayerful and hopeful!

I now invite Jesus Christ into my heart as my Lord and Savior. I am willing to follow Him as Lord of my life from this day forward. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.
