Our lives are consumed with edit tools on social media. If you make a mistake in your caption on Instagram or Facebook, you can easily hit the ‘edit’ button. If you make a mistake on your order on Amazon, you can edit it before it is shipped. There’s something you can never edit and that is your life. Any mistake you’ve made in the past is history. You can remember everything that you’ve done wrong in the past. It sucks that you can’t hit ‘delete’ on a traumatic moment that happened in your life.
Even though you can never edit your life, you are able to ask Jesus to forgive you for all the mistakes you’ve made in your life. He forgives you as long you have forgiven others. When you are forgiven, you can stop dwelling on your past and walk into the present moment. Of course, you will remember the past every once and a while, but you don’t have to let that hold you back from the promises that God has for you.
You are able to have a clean slate and start over with God this time. You can look forward to the future knowing that God is on your side. Mistakes are meant to be learned from, so that you can do better the second time. Maybe you’ve had a baby outside of marriage and you feel horrible for not doing it God’s way the first time. If you ask the Lord for forgiveness, you can honor God by being celibate and waiting for marriage. You won’t ever get your virginity back, but it is nothing to dwell on because you fornicated in the past.
God is always with us and He knew that we were going to make the mistakes we’ve made, but He is not a God of condemnation. He forgives and forgets. Once He wipes your slate clean, He doesn’t remember your mistakes. You should try that too. Don’t think hard on how you messed up.
Keep walking forward! You’re living an unedited life and the thing is you are able to control some choices you make. Your life is not supposed to be mistake free because you are not God. You are going to have some downfalls especially as a Christian. You’re going to go through these storms, so that you can make a testimony out of it. God intended for you to have an unedited life for His glory.
Think about if your life was perfect, would you even need God? If your finances was always right, would you even have faith that God is powerful? No you wouldn’t because you would have it altogether. You maybe thinking, “well God wanted me to fall on my face, if He didn’t make my life perfect. That’s messed up.” You’re right. He wanted you to fall on your face at His Feet. He wanted you to lay your life down for Him. He wanted you to cry out to Him when you were running out of faith. God wants you to know that He is Powerful, All-Knowing, and Mighty. If you look to Him, He will always lead you in the right direction. He will always give you what you need when you are struggling. It may not be when you want it, but He’ll help you at His timing.
Another reason that your life is not unedited because you can’t fulfill your purpose if you haven’t gone through anything. How can you teach someone how to be a speaker and you never went through the process of how to talk? How can you own a certain type of business, and you’ve never had a problem? You do know people have businesses to fix problems, right? It’s not really about the money (although your own money to your business is good), but to help others do better than they did.
For me, I believe that if I never went through the stages of being insecure about my dark skin, I think I probably would’ve been arrogant. I would’ve thought I was all that, but God allowed me to go through a lot of insecure moments, and feeling hopeless or worthless, so that I could humble myself before Him. God knows who you are and He knows the way to make you surrender yourself to Him.
Your past is your past for a reason. One is for you to look back at where He’s brought you from and two is for you to learn from your mistakes. When you learn, you know better and you do better. If you didn’t learn then you’re not understanding. That’s why a lot of you have made a lot of mistakes because you’re not understanding what you are doing wrong.
Your life is not social media. It is important to watch how you walk, how you act, and how you talk to people. A lot of people use hurtful words that damage people’s lives for years! They never forget the words that you say to them whether good or bad. You can’t edit the words that flow out of your mouth like you can before sending a text or social media post. Once it comes out of your mouth, the person is scarred for life. Only Jesus can help them stop dwelling on the hurtful words that you’ve said to them. Every once and a while, my mind travels back to that 12-year-old girl that was called “ugly”, so hurtful words don’t leave you.
Stop trying to delete things that are meant to be in your life. Stop trying to edit your life because it won’t work. What you’ve done and said is HISTORY! Enjoy your life and watch the way you move this time. Be mindful of the way you speak. God is watching every move we make. You can hide things from your family and friends, but you can’t hide from God.
Leave that edit button for social media. Don’t try to rehash toxic situations or people back into your life.
I hope that this post was encouraging to you. I hope you have a fantastic week and weekend! God loves you and so do I! Thank you for reading and sharing!
Prayer: Lord, we know that we can’t edit our lives. We know everything works together for our good including the bad things. Thank you for showing us that since we don’t have an edit button, we need to be mindful of how we talk, how we move, and how we act. Lord Jesus, help us to show love to everyone we know and don’t know. Help us to think before we speak. Help us to think before we act upon that decision. Lord, help us to live the way that you want us to. In Jesus name, we thank you for this post, we love you! Give us the mind to not dwell on our mistakes or sins that You have forgiven. Forgive us for the sins that we have partook in today. Help us to learn from our mistakes that we’ve made, so we won’t do them again. In Jesus name, Amen!
Hebrews 10: 16-18 NLT – “This is the new covenant I will make with my people on that day, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.”
Then he says, “I will never again remember their sins and lawless deeds.” And when sins have been forgiven, there is no need to offer any more sacrifices.
