Don’t Be Too Hard On Yourself

As Christians, it is common for us to feel as if we aren’t enough or doing enough for God’s Kingdom. We start to feel like God doesn’t love us because we haven’t spent a lot of time with him. We feel like God isn’t happy with us even when we do praise and worship, read our Bible, and sit in his presence almost every day.

A lot of times, we are being too hard on ourselves. We allow the enemy to make us feel like we aren’t doing enough for Jesus. We allow our minds to overthink, about making it to heaven because we didn’t do something right. When we overthink or become too hard on ourselves, we begin to lose our joy for the Lord! We start to withdraw from God’s Presence because we didn’t study our Bible as much we did yesterday. We come to the end of our day and feel condemned because we didn’t worship Jesus as much as we did last month.

If you are like that, I have come to let you know that Jesus does not expect us to be perfect. He does not expect you to pray for eight hours a day. He knows that you have work to do and you only have twenty four hours in a day. Don’t miss the opportunity to have an amazing experience with Jesus, because you didn’t spend a lot of time with him. Don’t feel bad because you didn’t work on the God-given project as much as you did last week. As God gives you grace every day, give yourself that same grace.

Jesus does not love you any less than he did yesterday. Even if you failed, He loves you and he sees that your heart desires to do well. He sees that you desired to work on that Youtube video, when you became distracted with other things. He wants you to know that he loves you and to keep showing up even on your worst day. He smiles at you giving him praise even when you don’t feel like it. He loves you when you fall on your face. It may seem like you can’t get back up, but God is still with you as you return to him.

Sometimes life is going to be hard with its twists and turns, but Jesus has already given you the peace to overcome it. He has already overcome the world for your weary soul. You may not be doing as bad as you think. It is the enemy that is discouraging you from feeling God’s love. He wants to condemn you, so that you can feel guilty and run away from Jesus. The enemy wants you to fall back into sin, so he makes you feel like the Bible is too hard to read. The enemy makes you feel like Gospel music is tiresome, and these faith-based shows or movies are corny (some of them actually are corny…shhh!), but you have to keep fighting. You have to remember that God will never leave you or forsake you. If he is with those that are making their bed in Hell, then He is with YOU too!

Stop feeling bad for yourself because you’re not on top of the world for Jesus every day! You had a bad day, but that doesn’t mean to stay there! You have to keep going and accept “Okay I had a bad day or a bad week, but I’m going to be ON IT with my relationship with God this week. I’m going to connect with Him every chance I get this week!” Listen, even if you go through the day, thanking Jesus for another day or another meal, you’re keeping your relationship going with God. Even if you ponder on only one scripture and don’t read a whole chapter of the Bible, you still included God. While you watched an appropriate show, and you talked to Jesus throughout the show, you did a good job. You worked on a chapter of that book, you did it sis!

If you completely give up on God, that’s when you should be scared. If you skipped a day to read/study the Bible, it’s okay! If you didn’t go into worship for 30 minutes or more, and you only worshipped for 5 minutes, at least you did it! No more of being hard on ourselves to the point that we lose our connection with Jesus completely. Every day won’t look the same, and it is not supposed to!

Even though you had a bad day yesterday, thank Him! Our bad days show us that God is still graceful and merciful to us. He still loves us enough to give us another chance at life despite not being heavily in his Presence as usual. Don’t be too hard on yourself! Extend grace to yourself. Nobody’s perfect except God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. I hope that this post encouraged you to keep going this week even if you slip one day(or maybe two). Keep fighting for Jesus in those bad days, because that’s where the enemy tries to kick you at your lowest. Have a great week! God loves you and so do I!

Prayer: Thank You Jesus, for giving us the message to not be hard on ourselves. We believe that your grace is sufficient for all of us. Thank you for your grace and mercy that you give us every day. Help us to keep walking on your path and not to walk on the enemy’s path, when times get too rough with you. In our rough moments, we understand that you are shaping us and molding us into who you want us to be! In Jesus name, help us to extend grace and mercy to ourselves. Remind us that we are not perfect! We are certainly not You, so we need to understand that we will fail sometimes, but we shouldn’t stop pursuing You! Thank You Jesus for all that you do in our lives! In Jesus name, Amen!

2 Corinthians 12:9 AMP – But He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you [My lovingkindness and My mercy are more than enough – always available – regardless of the situation]; for [My] power is being perfected [and is completed and shows itself most effectively] in [your] weakness” Therefore, I will all the more gladly boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ [may completely enfold me and] may dwell in me.
